After researching about the Supreme Court, my eyes were opened to the behind-the-scenes reality of being on the Supreme Court. The field of law and criminal justice has never been of interest to me, in which to pursue a career, but I have to admit that I found this video very interesting, given the importance of the Supreme Court in our daily lives.
All I generally knew about government before watching the video is that there are three branches, the Judicial, Executive, and Legislative, and that when the Supreme Court makes a final decision, no other branch has power to overturn or influence it. The nomination of a new justice to the court brings all three branches of government together, with the president making the nomination and the Congress questioning the nominee and voting to confirm him or her.
Although this is true, watching the video gave me a deeper understanding of the importance of the individuals that serve our the court. Even though the Supreme Court is a very powerful judicial body, people on the inside have power that is dependent on public faith in their independence and impartiality." And when these people are given a job for life, it is important that they do not allow politics to interfere with their respect for justice.
