Brit Awards bounce back

During the Brit Awards this past week, celebrities were making political statements left and right. I never have watched the Brit Awards, but after it aired live, I look back on clips of it, and I was beyond impressed. As I’ve discussed in a previous post about the Grammy’s, it makes me feel positive and inspired when I see celebrities using their fame as a platform to discuss important social, political, and economic issues. This past week, Katy Perry has struck again. After her Grammy performance with a bracelet labeled “PERSIST”, she storms onto the Brit Awards stage with a very different set up. During the performance, two huge skeletons marched onstage, looking an awful lot like Donald Trump and British Prime Minister, Theresa May. They were both dressed in outfits resembling the same ones they actually wore at their meeting at the White House one month ago. The figures were holding hands as they walked around stage as there were mini houses dancing around below them. I love watching award shows, and I always have ever since I was little, but this was by far one of the most impressive and noteworthy things I have had the pleasure of watching. I’ve never been a huge fan of Katy Perry, but knowing and seeing that she recognizes she has the ability to use her fame as a platform to get a spotlight on political issues, gives me hope as well as inspires me and hope others do the same.
