Today in class we held our first official mock trial case, State vs. Mann. I was on the side supporting Mr. Mann, along with my 5 other teammates that I mentioned in my first blog post with a plus one. I came into the room not knowing what to expect and how we were all going to individually present our information. As the side supporting the Lidia the slave started to give their side, it became clear, I calmed down and felt confident in my arguments as my teammates walked up to the stand. My team had categories for the arguments: Bible, Constitution, Ethics, Property, Observation, and History. My category to explain was Observation, and some points that I brought up were that Mr. Mann the slave owner is in charge of the actions of the slave, as he did not own but he rented her but she was in legal possession of him. I mentioned that slave labor along with the invention of the cotton gin in 1793 expanded all across the country therefore helping build a world economy. I am looking forward to the next case and to bring the best argument possible.
